EMMAUS AREZZO

Member organisation of Emmaus International since 1978.

Emmaus Arezzo was the first Italian community to join Emmaus International, in 1978. It was founded by Franco Bettoli, former chair of Emmaus International (1988-1999), who passed away in 2008. Today, Emmaus Arezzo is home to 22 companions, who do traditional Emmaus community work: collecting, sorting, repairing and reselling goods at low prices at their second-hand shop and on their stall, which are open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The group also collects scrap metal in order to recycle it. Furthermore, companions keep a henhouse and 8 beehives, which, as well as bringing in extra income, help to feed the community day-to-day. Finally, Emmaus Arezzo collaborates with local organisations working to rehabilitate people with addictions and to support families with low incomes.
