Organization founded in 1981 and member of Emmaus International since 1984.
Since 2009, Emmaus Buenaventura has been providing daytime care for children with mental disabilities. The aim is to help their families, prevent children from being left alone while their parents are at work, and prevent abuse. There are no other centers of this kind in the region, with the exception of the Emmaus Buenaventura facility.
The 15 children, aged between 3 and 10, are looked after by the group's managers and a few volunteers. Once a week, they receive support from education and health professionals (doctors, social workers, psychologists, etc.)
In addition, in 2007, the group was forced by drug traffickers to cease its income-generating activities in the shipyards. As a result, the group is currently studying a project to create a transit point for transporters arriving at the port of Buenaventura. Its objective is to find a source of funding specific to the group.
