EMMAUS HAARZUILENS

Emmaus Haarzuilens, near Utrecht, is the oldest Emmaus community in The Netherlands, providing accommodation and work for about 15 companions. The group’s accommodation is located in a modern, sustainably built house. With help from some 25 volunteers, the companions carry out the traditional work of Emmaus communities: collecting, sorting, repairing and selling goods at low prices.

Emmaus Haarzuilens possesses two trucks and a van which it uses for its daily work. It also makes collections at waste sorting centres and collects clothing from textile containers. The group recycles paper, cardboard, glass and metals, and has a skip for waste electrical and electronic equipment. Emmaus Haarzuilens is set in a green environment and tends a spacious garden. With the proceeds from the thrift shops, it supports initiatives run by Emmaus organisations in Peru and various other projects in different countries all over the world.

Emmaus Haarzuilens has a clothing shop in the city centre as well, opened during the afternoon on Wednesday until Saturday.
