Toulouse – France
Bois & Compagnie (‘Wood and Co’)
THE CONTEXT OF YOUR INITIATIVE
The problem of poor housing today is overwhelming – 4 million people have no housing or are poorly housed according to a report by the Abbé Pierre Foundation and in total 12.1 million people are affected, to varying extents, by the housing crisis.
In a difficult economic context, where primary needs such as housing are not fulfilled, in Toulouse ‘Wood and Co’ collects leftover wood used for industrial purposes (palettes, crates, etc.), embellishes it and re-uses it as a raw material in our construction work. Thus ‘Wood and Co’ fights against precarity in an environmentally-friendly manner.
THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT AS PART OF YOUR INITIATIVE
In 2016 Emmaus Toulouse and ‘Wood and Co’ worked together on an experimental adaptable chalet project in Labarthe sur Lèze. The chalet was built by qualified members of the association.

WHO IS INVOLVED FROM OUR GROUP?
With the help of the three companions based at the site, a collective project was started in June with the ‘Wood and Co’ association.

FUTURE PROSPECTS
Today two companions, Faith and Dirk, live together in this chalet. This housing has allowed them to have more independence whilst still staying at the heart of the Emmaus Toulouse community.
The project also enabled ‘Wood and Co’ to complete their first adaptable chalet and to get feedback from the companions living there.
