In its efforts to organise the sharing of resources within the movement, the Emmaus movement has set up a container-sharing scheme.

In this way, the European Emmaus organisations share material resources with those in Africa and Latin America so that they can acquire equipment, organise second-hand sales and help other local stakeholders. Members of each of the groups then have an opportunity to meet each other to load and unload a container. Sending and receiving organisations are encouraged to visit each other so they can get to know each other and share the importance of this form of solidarity.  Emmaus International coordinates this programme and finances some of the container shipping fees.

« In a country like Peru, although we also carry out collection work, the quality and quantity of the items recovered are nowhere near enough to finance our local activities. At Emmaus Piura, we receive 1 to 2 containers of clothing and household appliances every year, sent by Emmaus groups in Europe. This means that we can run our clothing donation campaigns, along with other items, and offer good quality items at low prices to the local population who come to our shop. »

Juan Melquiades, Leader of the Emmaus Piura group (Peru)
