Agro-ecology

Against the background of the predatory behaviour of agribusiness and land grabbing, Emmaus communities are developing agricultural models based on agroecology and safeguarding peasants' rights.

Emmaus International argues that alternatives are possible, respecting people and the environment, and that sustainable and responsible agriculture is a way to fight poverty. This contributes to food security and the eradication of extreme poverty, while preserving our ecosystems. It also re-establishes the link between producers and consumers by prioritising local markets and solidarity economy channels, emphasises human values such as dignity, equity and inclusion, and relies on practices adapted to the social, environmental, economic, cultural and political contexts of each area.
