Housing for all: the struggle continues!

Emmaus International has always been involved in fighting for the right and access to decent housing and it continues to pursue the fight led by Abbé Pierre by supporting a number of housing projects run by Emmaus groups around the world. In response to the call for action on 27 and 28 March launched by a European coalition on the right to housing and to the city, we present an initiative carried out by the Emmaus group Satu Mare in Romania which promotes access to housing for disadvantaged young people.

World Water Day: “Water for life, not for profit!”

At a time when access to water for all and its sustainable management remain major challenges around the world, Emmaus International is marking World Water Day by raising the alarm about attempts to commodify this vital asset and by presenting an overview of the alternatives put in place by four Emmaus groups to reclaim the human right to water.

Challenges faced by women in India and the role of Emmaus groups fighting for women and their rights


To mark International Women’s Day and women’s rights, the representatives of the Emmaus groups in India tell us about the difficulties experienced by women in their country and the work carried out by the Emmaus groups (F.H.F., Kudumbam, Tara Projects, V.C.D.S.) to fight against the discrimination they suffer in order to improve their daily lives.

Speech by Lucie Coutaz for young people - Faims & Soifs des hommes, April-May 1970

On this day dedicated to women, Emmaus International would like to pay homage to Lucie Coutaz, the woman who worked for over 37 years with Abbé Pierre and who did so much for the Emmaus movement. The speech that she wrote for young people in Faims & Soifs des hommes, no. 6-7, April-May 1970, pages 10-11 is one of the few texts that allows us to discover a little more about who she was.
