Located near Fortaleza in the state of Ceará, Emmaus Amor e Vida was set up in 1992 by Jose Elias de Sousa. The community became an official member of Emmaus International in 2014.
The companions at Emmaus Amor e Vida carry out the traditional activities of Emmaus communities of collecting, sorting through, repairing and selling goods at low prices at their second-hand shop. Income from the shop helps the community develop further and run social initiatives.
The community provides learning support and education for up to a hundred children and teenagers. Classrooms at the community itself are used to give classes. The community focuses on offering support, keeping children in education and providing vocational training.
