In 1997, a civil war had been waging for 22 years. In Luanda, Afonso Arão Pedro, Panzo Nzola and their friends created the Emmaus Lunda organisation. Its goal is to improve living conditions for the communities, with the participation of the population. Their farm and fish farm provide technical assistance for small farmers. They also produce fired bricks to build houses for underprivileged communities, support volunteer teachers in a nearby community, lead prevention campaigns and other activities to fight against AIDS/HIV and work in conjunction with civil society. Emmaus Lunda became a member of Emmaus International in 2015.
